Williams College seeks a talented and experiencedAssociate Director of Alumni Engagement for Regional Programs to architect and grow comprehensive engagement for alumni in more than 60 active, volunteer-led regional associations around the world. The Associate Director will travel extensively to meet with alumni, working to strengthen the college's network, cultivate volunteerism and support, and produce high-impact events.
A creative, energetic, and empathetic team, the Office of Alumni Engagement seeks a colleague with an entrepreneurial spirit and the ability to manage a high volume of programs, stakeholders, and priorities in a fast-paced environment. Ideal candidates should have a strong background in volunteer management, program design and event execution, marketing and communications, and data-informed engagement strategy.
The Associate Director will design and implement a robust menu of events and programs while proactively recruiting new alumni volunteer leadership and ensuring stable succession planning for established associations. You will manage a three-tiered engagement model, through which you will:
• directly produce high-impact events like Presidential and Faculty talks;
• co-create signature programs like Viewing Parties, Mountain Days, and Williams Welcomes;
• support a large number of alumni-initiated and alumni-led gatherings in regions.
As a skilled communicator and brand manager, you will be asked to design regional communications that match the aesthetic of the Williams brand, while using data and alumni insights to pilot new modes of communication and connection in emerging markets. This role requires strategic thinking, volunteer lifecycle management, and deep collaboration with colleagues and a global network of alumni.

Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Executive Director of Alumni Relations, the Associate Director leads a robust volunteer corps in implementing an exciting array of engagement opportunities across 60 active regional association markets. They also provide guidance, support, and management of volunteers to facilitate the sharing of ideas and best practices among regional volunteers.
This position proactively identifies and pilots innovative models for signature annual events that strengthen connections between the college and its global alumni, parent, and family populations. The AD also serves as the brand manager for regional communications, elevating the quality of digital and print outreach to ensure a sophisticated and inclusive alumni experience.
This position is housed within Alumni Engagement, with deep collaboration across College Relations to ensure that all alumni, parents, and families, regardless of where they reside, have access to events and resources that can strengthen their connection to the college and one another.
Specific responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):
• Designing and implementing the overarching strategy for the regional association framework through a tiered engagement model that balances institutional excellence with local autonomy.
• Traveling extensively to meet with alumni where they live and work-strengthening the college's network, cultivating a spirit of volunteerism and support, and producing high-impact events.
• Managing the comprehensive volunteer lifecycle, including identification, recruitment, training, stewardship, and succession planning for high-performing regions.
• Architecting and producing high-stakes, high-impact events, including Presidential Events and faculty talks, as the primary lead on strategy, logistics, and visual brand execution.
• Co-creating "anchor" programs-such as Williams Welcomes, Viewing Parties, and Mountain Day-by providing volunteers with strategic frameworks, marketing collateral, and logistical scaffolding.
• Overseeing the delivery of strategic logistical support, including registration systems, data-driven marketing, and digital invitations, while maintaining Williams' brand standards.
• Serving as the lead communicator for the regional portfolio, producing high-quality digital and print invitations and collateral.
• Identifying and piloting innovative engagement models in emerging or international markets, including "Williams in a Box" and special international gatherings.
• Partnering strategically with Alumni Engagement and Development colleagues to architect events that broaden engagement.
• Adapting programming to meet the interests of young alumni and diverse populations.
• Aligning regional event calendars with institutional priorities, presidential travel schedules, and other campus-wide events.
Qualifications:
• At least a bachelor's degree and a minimum of 5 years relevant experience in educational settings, volunteer management, event planning, business operations, marketing/communications, or comparable field of endeavor.
• Experience managing very large groups of volunteers on an ongoing basis, or equivalent types of experience.
• Excellent communication, marketing, and brand management skills, particularly for email and print communications.
• Strong interpersonal skills, with ability to work with broadly diverse groups of alumni, faculty, staff, students, vendors, providers, and other stakeholders.
• Organizational and problem solving skills with an ability to prioritize and execute multiple competing projects and tasks.
• Comfort in an environment where most work is done digitally, with demonstrated interest in learning new systems and platforms.
• Experience with financial reconciliation or willingness to learn.
• Ability to transport supplies in support of events and mailings; ability to navigate campus and to travel extensively.
Hybrid on-site/remote work arrangements may be available for up to 2 days of remote work per week for employees based in MA, NY, CT, or VT, following a fully in-person onboarding period. Remote work arrangements are subject to review and revision as policy evolves.
