Description

 

POSITION: The Department of Music at Williams College announces a one-year, full-time Visiting Assistant Professor appointment in Musicology beginning in the fall of 2026.

 

DUTIES: Teach four courses (two per semester), including a survey of European music history up to 1750 primarily for majors, introductory courses on early music, and other courses related to the candidate's interests and experience. The pay range for this position is $78,000-$80,000.

 

Qualifications

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Doctorate in musicology with particular expertise in any period of music history before 1750; expertise in a secondary area that complements the strengths and interests of current faculty is especially welcome. Doctorate must be in hand by September 2026. Teaching experience at the undergraduate level is desirable.

DEPARTMENT: The Music Department has 11 full-time faculty and approximately 40 part-time Artist Associates and Artists in Residence. The Department maintains an active musical life with over 130 events each year including those by the Berkshire Symphony, Concert and Chamber Choirs, Jazz Ensemble, Zambezi Marimba Band, Kusika, Williams Chamber Players, Chinese Music Ensemble, Middle Eastern Music Ensemble, I/O New Music, student chamber groups, and visiting artists and ensembles.
