About This Role

 

The Department of Animal Sciences and Industry, within the College of Agriculture at Kansas State University, is seeking qualified applicants for a 12-month, full-time Instructor position specializing in Companion Animal Management. This non-tenure track teaching faculty role is dedicated to delivering high-quality instruction to both on-campus and distance students. The successful candidate will contribute to the department's undergraduate mission through effective teaching, recruitment, retention, and mentorship initiatives.

 

The primary teaching focus will be on companion animals and their management but may include contributions in other areas depending upon departmental needs and areas of expertise. The individual in this role will collaborate with current and future faculty members within ASI and the Grain Science & Industry's pet food program. Other collaborations within and external to the College of Agriculture at K-State are encouraged. The instructor will play a key role in shaping and enhancing a progressive curriculum aligned with industry needs and student career goals.

The department offers comprehensive training across multiple disciplines, including animal nutrition, reproduction, genetics, physiology, behavior, meat science, dairy processing, production systems, and agribusiness. Our programs emphasize scientific rigor, critical thinking, and hands-on experience, equipping graduates to become leaders in animal agriculture and related industries both domestically and internationally.

What You'll Need to Succeed

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

• The candidate must hold an M.S. or higher in animal science or a related field, or a DVM at the time of employment

• Aptitude and enthusiasm to teach and mentor undergraduate students

• Evidence of team-focused, collaborative approach

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

• Ph.D. in animal science or related field at the time of employment

• Experience in university-level teaching or formal training in curriculum development and instructional methods

• Experience in one or more disciplines within companion animal science, such as, but not limited to, health, nutrition, behavior, welfare, or training

• Strong commitment to student engagement, academic mentorship, and the educational mission of a land-grant institution

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship
