Veterinary Nurse IILarge Animal Float
About This Role:
The Veterinary Health Center (VHC) within the College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking Veterinary Nurse II - Large Animal Float to join our dedicated team to help facilitate exemplary patient care and quality customer service. This position provides veterinary supports and performs semi-routine tasks in the equine and livestock sections of the Veterinary Health Center at Kansas State University. Employee provides assistance in the care of patients through independently performing technical procedures and administering treatments. Other responsibilities include equine and livestock field service or on-call large animal surgery. Working hours for this position will be Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm with participation in the on-call schedule.

What You'll Need to Succeed:
Minimum Qualifications:
• Completion of a two-year college program in veterinary or animal technology accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA).
• 2 years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Knowledge of basic veterinary medical concepts, animal behavior and animal husbandry.
• Ability to perform general diagnostic procedures and technical tasks associated with emergency medical care.
• Ability to work with and provide preventative maintenance for ordinary veterinary medical hospital equipment.
• Ability to follow IACUC protocols established for use of teaching animals.
• Ability to adhere to appropriate safety procedures.
• Ability to be a self-starter and be proactive in assisting others.
• Ability to multi-task and work in a high intensity environment.
• Ability to handle, restrain, and provide medical treatments to domestic animals.
• Skilled in time management and prioritizing daily responsibilities.
• Skilled in interpersonal and written communication.
• Skilled in basic computer skills.
• Willing to master new techniques.
Other Requirements:
• Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment.
• The College of Veterinary Medicine requires that new hires must obtain a Kansas license as a Veterinary Technician within 6 months of employment. Advancing staff must have obtained their Kansas license as a Veterinary Technician prior to advancement.
