About This Role:

The retention and success specialist is part of a dynamic team in the Carl R. College of Engineering Academic Success Center. This position will help support student retention in the College of Engineering with a focus on support for students that have been historically underserved including first-generation to college, transfer, and low-income students. This position will play an integral role in ensuring students in the college feel welcomed and prepared for success. This position reports to the Assistant Dean for Retention, Diversity, and Inclusion and is based on the Manhattan campus.

 

This position will:

 

Oversee the day-to-day programming for the Multicultural Engineering Program and Global Engineers. This includes assistance with planning events, coordinating student travel, assisting student groups, and support students that come into the DEIB office;

 

Plan and organize events and activities to support first-generation to college, transfer, and low-income students;

 

Collect data, student attendance, and feedback on retention events and programs. Track student visits to the College of Engineering office for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging;

 

Plan activities for and coordinate with the recruitment office for College for a Day as well as events for the recruitment of underserved populations such as Transfer Visit Day, Midwest HALO Encuentro, or the Black Student Union Leadership Conference. This includes being the College of Engineering representative for these events;

 

Provide administrative support for the Assistant Dean for Retention, Diversity, and Inclusion, including support for Directlink (transfer student advising) as well as occasional support with meeting schedules and travel; and

 

Other duties may be assigned.

What You'll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

 

• Requires a high school diploma and four years of relevant experience

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

• Experience working with diverse students

• Understanding of barriers to degree completion commonly faced by college students

• Ability to work collaboratively

• Experience with event planning
