About This Role:
The Director of the Online Student Success and Advising unit leads a dynamic team providing student success initiatives and academic advising to all K-State students pursuing online degrees and credentials. This position provides university-wide leadership and strategic planning for current student interactions and services offered through K-State Online by managing the elements of the student interface including enrollment, retention, and graduation. They will engage in collaborative conversations with college and university partners, and represent online learners on various committees, events, and presentations.
The director will be responsible for developing and implementing programs in line with best practices and current data for online learner support and retention. They are part of the advising leadership team within academic and career engagement. They will promote retention initiatives through a combination of both direct supervision and non-direct influence amongst online advisors across the institution.
Job Duties Include but Are Not Limited To:
• Develop K-State Online student engagement strategies, ensuring they are achieved through strong leadership, coordination of staff efforts and delivery of excellent customer service to all constituents including students, faculty, and support departments.
• Oversee the development and the implementation of communication plans along with the DASSA communications team for current students to aid in student retention. Methods include use of social media and technology to connect with K-State Online students, monitor and request updates of all online student services web pages and create broad student communications.
• Supervise online student success and advising staff. This includes hiring, training, updating staff on new procedures, assigning, and evaluating workload, and preparation of annual performance reviews.
• Investigate student problems as they arise and communicate issues with appropriate leadership and program staff. Work with academic departments and colleges to determine resolutions of issues.
• Analyze reports and surveys on retention and engagement efforts for administrative and academic offices and provide recommendations necessary for improvement of activities toward meeting online student and university goals.
• Articulate and document the management process for retention of online students including developing benchmarks, key metrics and appropriate dates for adjustment of practices.
• Advise a small number of exploratory students, participate in regular meetings with the director of the Pre-Professional and Exploratory Advising Center staff and collaborate with on-campus exploratory advisors.

What You'll Need to Succeed:
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree
• Five to ten years of relevant experience
Preferred Qualifications:
• Master's degree in student personnel or related field
• Five years of experience in:
• Higher education or student services
• Personnel supervision and training
• Providing exceptional customer service
• Ability to develop new ideas and implement ways to continually improve services.
• Knowledge of the field of online education including general status and challenges, student services, and faculty issues
• Experience managing a full-time professional staff with steadily increasing levels of responsibility.
• Proven record of organizational and administrative skills including the ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects.
• Ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse groups.
• Excellent leadership, supervisory and team-building skills
• Experience in budget management
• Demonstrated problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
• Ability to work independently and as a team member.
• Excellent understanding of technology as it relates to online course delivery.
• Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office software programs including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Demonstrated experience with student academic advising.
